5K run/walk provides sharing opportunities

(Okla.) In September the Sulphur and Davis churches joined forces to organize a 5K run/walk for the community. This event would serve several purposes. First, it would give the church members the opportunity to make a connection with the local people. Second, it was an opportunity to share and promote the health message by example and with literature. It also gave our church the opportunity to raise some funds for the two local ministerial alliances that provide food and gas to those in need. Read more...

A Big Red, White, and Blue Presented to BAS

(Bristow, Okla.) With assignments, paper, and crayons in hand, Bristow Adventist School, along with Zion Adventist Academy, was on the last leg of their Outdoor School adventure at the Ft. Gibson Cemetery. “ Cemetery!? Yuck!” was the cry from the students, who ended up having a time of their lives etching the beautiful and interesting designs they found. A special treat was when they found one of their assignments that ended up being the grave stone of Talahina Houston, the wife of Sam Houston along with a child Houston. Pre-Civil War headstones and Civil War headstones made history come alive to those that had studied that time period in school. Read more...

Serving the hopeless

Read this story: Serving the hopeless

I recently read a story on the Internet from one of Elder Tom Evans’ sermons. It touched my heart. It involved a young boy by the name of Cornelius. He was a thin, extremely quiet boy. His mother and her boyfriend were in prison. They had tortured, abused, and starved Cornelius and his four-year-old brother, Lattie. The police discovered the abuse in time to save Cornelius’ life, but it had been too late to save his little brother. The two great loves of his life were reading and basketball. Read more...

Recently Elder Bob Holbrook, youth director, invested three Pathfinders into the Edmond Eagles club with the Adventist Youth Silver Award. This is the first time in several decades that a club has undertaken this challenge and completed it here in Oklahoma. This is a special award that tests and pushes Pathfinders and young adults to strive for excellence in five areas. These five divisions include a strenuous physical fitness program, development of certain skills, leadership and service projects, cultural improvement, and taking a fun-filled but demanding expedition. Adventurers off to a great start!

Read this story: Adventurers off to a great start!

(Okla.) Our Adventurers are kicking this year off to a good start. We have a total of 13 members and seven staff. We are pleased to have added seven new members this year, two of which are not members of our church. Hayley and Baylee Quick’s mother, Vanessa Thurber, attended our church back in 1982 with her grandparents, Curtis and Edith Thurber, long-time church members, and Cameron Smith, whose family is Adventist but recently joined our church’s club. We also promoted four Eager Beavers to Adventurers. We are so glad for each child who participates. They love attending our meetings. Read more...

(Okla.) Women’s Ministries Emphasis Day is a time set aside by the North American Division to give special attention to Women’s Ministries. On that special Sabbath, Teresa Shelton shared the history of Women’s Ministries, relating that it was organized by Mrs. S.M.I. Henry in 1898 while consulting with Ellen G. White. Georgia Quigley shared comments and the mission story, and told an inspiring children’s story about Dorcas of the Bible. Read more...

Welcome Home | Bon Voyage!

Read this story: Welcome Home | Bon Voyage!

(Okla.) With missionaries coming and going, church members decided to host a combined “Welcome Home and Bon Voyage” party. Head deacon Richard Wagner had just returned from one of his numerous mission trips where his construction skills are put to very good use. Shortly after his return, a group of young people and sponsors were leaving for a missionary trip to Mexico. Members donated many items to be distributed to the church and families in Mexico.
